Literature:  Read The Scholarship Jacket and answer the questions. 
1.  What is the setting of the story?
2.  Who is the narrator?
3.  What is the scholarship jacket?  When do you win it and why do you win it?
4.  Why has the narrator (Martha)  never played sports?
5.  What does the Martha's father do for a living?
6.  Who does she overhear?  What are the arguing about?
7.  Why does Mr. Boone think Joann should win the scholarship jacket?
8.  Why does Mr. Schmidt think Martha should win?
9.  How does the principal change the rules on the scholarship jacket so that it will be harder for Martha to win?
10.   Why does Martha live with her grandparents?  What do they do for a living?
11.  Why does grandfather say that he won't pay the fifteen dollars for the jacket, though he can afford it.
12.  When Martha tells the principal she won't pay for the jacket, what does he do?
13.  Why is the jacket so important to Martha?
14.  What lesson has grandfather taught Martha in this story?  Why do you think so?
